How we deal with waste in a responsible way
Carboard & Plastics
Cardboard and plastic is a massive issue, everything comes wrapped in either of the two to protect it, stoves generally come on wooden pallets with a cardboard protection sleeve over them to keep them safe in transit, flue liners generally come wrapped in plastic wrap to keep them together as they are rather large, twinwall flue componets come in cardboard outer boxes wrapped in bubble wrap inside.
As you can appreciate we produce a huge amount of this, thats why we have a dedicted recycling skip, yes, a skip, its huge and we have this empited every 2-4 weeks dependant on the season.
Building Rubble
During some of our installations we complete building works which involved opening the existing fire chamber to a larger size, removing old stone fire surrounds and existing hearths.
We feel sending these to landfill is wasteful, so we have a dedictaed rcycling skip that doesn’t find its way to landfil, this goes for processing and crushing to be turned into recycled aggragates which are then reused in the construction industry as hardcore.
Wood & Timber
Everything we have delivered comes on a pallet, as we buy in such large volumes it is the most cost effective way to receive large volumes of goods. Pallets can be reused time and time again, so where pallets are in good condition we reuse them to send goods back out, we also send them back to suppliers for reuse. Any pallets that have seen better days we have collected by a pallet firm who make repairs and get them back into circulation.
Our huge volume of firewood arrives to us in containers in-turn they are surrounded by timber to supoport them in transit, this timber has gone through a kiln drying process meaning the pallet and timber is dry, we use this in our biomass 50kW woodburner, to provide space heating to our premises.
Apppointed Registered Waste Management Company
All our waste is disposed of by our appointed waste management company Smith’s (Gloucester) Limited, who are reigstered with the Environment Agency as and upper tier waste carrier and dealer, their registration number is CBDU102863.
Our Impact on the enviroment
Heating
Our heating in our premises is provided by our biomass 50kW woodburner using waste wood produced from our operations, in addition we have a super efficient biomass boiler and cooker, the Klover Smart 120 provides us heating to radiators positioned around the premsies. It uses Wood Pellets which are manufactured by waste produced from other activies. The efficiency is nearly 90%, this is not far from the most efficient gas boilers, but using a renewable energy source.
Hotwater
All our hot water is provided by our Klover Smart 120 biomass boiler, fuelled by wood pellets a renewable energy source.
This also provides hot water to Gilos our in-house mezze and takeaway which is open 6 days a week.
The Future
As anyone local that knows us and where we are located, we have a huge building which we operate from with Austins and Gilos, we have looked into the installation of Solar PV on our massive roof, this will provide between 40-60kW of green renewable electricity for our own consumption and feedback into the grid.
